GREENHOUSE GAS (GHG) EMISSIONS & ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Pollution rises out of a smokestack

Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 60% over a baseline year of 2021*

É«ÇéÖ±²¥ continues to focus on reducing energy consumption in our facilities through energy-efficient lighting and lighting controls, higher-efficiency heating and cooling systems, improved building management systems, real estate footprint evaluation and process improvements. É«ÇéÖ±²¥ invests in eco-treasure hunts to identify improvements in energy efficiency throughout our operations.

*É«ÇéÖ±²¥ leveraged the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) tool to support the development of our GHG reduction target.

Renewable Sources

Source 40% of total electricity from renewable sources

É«ÇéÖ±²¥ continues to take steps toward sourcing more electricity from renewable electricity in support of increasing clean and sustainable energy in the electric grids where we operate and reduce the indirect GHG emissions associated with the electricity we purchase to power our operations. At the end of 2021, a new large-scale solar infrastructure project, built in part by Texas veterans, began commercial operation under a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) between É«ÇéÖ±²¥ and Lightsource bp. In 2023, we finalized a contract for onsite solar carports at our San Diego site. The project will address Í‚ 95% of the site’s electrical load and is currently scheduled to be operational in the latter half of 2025. Additionally, É«ÇéÖ±²¥ signed contracts for three offsite solar projects in the State of New York to address Í‚ 50% of the electrical load at five of our Rochester locations. The projects are expected to become operational in 2024 and 2025. To learn more about our sourcing strategy refer to our 2023 Sustainability Report

WATER CONSERVATION

Hand cups water out of a faucet

Reduce water use by 20% over a baseline year of 2021

Our focus on water includes evaluating all aspects of our business operations for conservation opportunities ranging from irrigation controls, low flow toilets/faucets and cooling tower efficiencies, to new technologies and processes to minimize the amount of water consumed onsite. As part of our strategic roadmap for achieving our goals, É«ÇéÖ±²¥ works with internal and external subject matter experts and engineers to develop, evaluate and implement large-scale water conservation solutions for our operations. Our investment in eco-treasure hunts extends to identifying water conservation projects throughout our operations.

SOLID WASTE: SOURCE REDUCTION PRACTICES

Tractor pushes trash around landfill

Reduce solid waste by 10% over a 2021 baseline year

É«ÇéÖ±²¥ places significant emphasis on effective waste management. Our strategy includes a comprehensive evaluation of all operations to fully understand the processes that generate waste in order to identify reduction initiatives, reuse options and opportunities to divert waste from landfills. The primary strategies that are leveraged include solid waste characterization assessments and establishing effective partnerships with internal functions and our solid waste haulers to identify continuous improvement opportunities. We evaluate opportunities to redesign products to maximize material usage, change manufacturing processes, purchase more durable goods that can be reused rather than disposed, conserve commodities through upstream waste prevention and initiate supply chain-oriented practices.

Employees Embracing sustainability at every level

The É«ÇéÖ±²¥ Green Teams are organized, grassroots and cross-functional groups of employees who voluntarily come together to brainstorm, motivate and empower employees around environmental sustainability and volunteer in local communities. They focus on identifying and implementing environmental sustainability-based projects such as resource conservation, pollution prevention and waste diversion initiatives that will help É«ÇéÖ±²¥ achieve its 2030 goals.

É«ÇéÖ±²¥ Foundation

É«ÇéÖ±²¥ Foundation

Our philanthropic commitments align with our business strategy and reflect our values. Our partnerships are organized around three strategic pillars: STEM, Mission-Aligned and Community. Through our STEM initiatives, we aim to excite and inspire students of all ages. We facilitate learning opportunities in areas like robotics, coding and space both in local community programs and in partnership with 12 colleges and universities.

Our Mission-Aligned programs recognize and benefit our nation’s veterans, active duty military and their families, as well as our first responders through partnerships with organizations like Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Homes For Our Troops, to name a few. Our Community programs reach into the communities where our employees live and work to make a positive impact, fostering partnerships with United Way, American Red Cross and INROADS. In 2020, we have made $7.4 million in community investments, which includes funding for special initiatives like COVID-19 relief and a 3-year commitment to support the INROADS College Links program.

Through LIFT we encourage active citizenship by funding employee-led volunteer projects, prioritizing those that best align with our strategic giving pillars. Projects include: coaching robotics teams, STEM mentorship for at-risk youth, mask-making for local communities, food packing events, care packages for active duty military members and so many more.
